Munktetoft means "monk field". The area used to belong to the Franciscan monastery . Around 1575 the Munktetoft-Weg was laid out for the bailiff Peter Rantzau , who divided the mill pond there into two ponds, the small and the large mill pond. Mürwiker Strasse

The connecting road to Mürwik was created as a continuation of Bismarckstrasse (see there ) until 1912. The road was named after Wilhelm II , as it led to the Mürwik naval school , which was initiated by Kaiser Wilhelm. After the Second World War , at the request of the Control Council, the street was renamed Mürwiker Strasse , although Mürwiker Strasse already existed. The street running parallel, today's Fruerlunder Strasse, was previously called Mürwiker Strasse. The renaming of the "old" Mürwiker Straße to the name Fruerlunder Straße therefore took place at the same time. Today, Mürwiker Straße is one of the most important traffic routes in the city. Together with Bismarckstrasse and the subsequent Fördestrasse, it leads from downtown Flensburg to Twedter Plack and on towards Glücksburg .
