International fire fighting competitions
The International Fire Brigade Association ( CTIF ) has held the CTIF International Fire Brigade Competitions ( World Championships ) at various locations every four years since 1961 . They are also known as the Fire Brigade Olympics. Competitions on an international level are also held regularly for the youth fire brigade. However, these are held every two years.
Almost 2,900 participants from 27 countries took part in the competitions in Villach / Austria in July 2017.
Types of competition
There are three types of competitions, which were introduced at intervals:
- 1961–1969: Traditional International Fire Brigade Competitions
- 1973–1977: Traditional International Fire Brigade Competitions and International Fire Brigade Sports Competitions
- 1981: Traditional International Fire Brigade Competitions, International Fire Brigade Sports Competitions (for BF ) and International Youth Fire Brigade Competitions
- from 1985: Traditional international fire service competitions, international fire service sports competitions (for fire brigades and volunteer fire services ) and international youth fire service competitions
Traditional International Fire Brigade Competitions (TIF)
The basis for the traditional fire brigade competitions introduced in 1961 are the competition regulations from 1951 from Austria . They are divided into two disciplines that must be carried out by the team.
Fire fighting attack (dry)
In the case of a dry fire-fighting attack , an operation with a group (nine firefighters) is simulated. After the group leader or group commander has given the order, the team must set up the hose line from the water extraction point to two carbon steel pipes. In addition to the time, the implementation is also assessed. The following devices are used for the construction:
- 1 portable pump or a corresponding dummy
- 4 A suction hoses
- 2 B pressure hoses
- 6 C pressure hoses
- 2 C-nozzles
- 1 distributor
- 1 suction strainer
- 2 lines
- 3 coupling keys
- Hose ties and hose holders
Obstacle relay race
The obstacle relay race is 400 meters long and is divided into eight equal sections. Every 50 meters, the carried nozzle is handed over as a baton. In the third section of the track there is a six meter long and 60 cm high balance beam. In the seventh section there is a 150 cm high obstacle wall. In the eighth section there is an eight meter long creepage distance (pipe, diameter 70 to 80 cm). For women, the obstacle wall is replaced by a second balance beam in the fourth section. Here, too, in addition to the time required, evaluation points are awarded by the judges in order to enable a comparison.
International Fire Brigade Sports Competitions (IFS)
Fire fighting is a competitive sport which demands motivation, endurance, skill and speed from the athletes. The most interesting disciplines are the duel disciplines of the 100-meter obstacle course and the hook ladder , officially: "Ascent with the hook ladder ".
In fire fighting sports, a distinction is made between team and individual disciplines. Individual events are the 100-meter steeplechase and the hook ladder climbing (men only), Team disciplines are the 4 × 100-meter relay firefighters , the fire attack wet and the group relay (women only).
At the International Fire Brigade Sports Competitions of the CTIF, which take place every four years, the top three competitors, relays and teams are awarded the International Fire Brigade Sports Competition Medal.
International Youth Fire Brigade Competitions (IJFW)
This type of competition was introduced by the CTIF in 1977 in order to give the children and young people (12 to 16 years) of the fire brigade an opportunity to compare themselves internationally. The youth competitions take place every two years.
The competition group (10 athletes) starts in two disciplines. In the fire brigade obstacle exercise (Part A), the group performs several temporary tasks. The assessment is based on time and correct performance of the tasks. In the 400-meter relay race with obstacles , nine young people start and use a C-jet pipe as a relay baton. There are obstacles to overcome in six of the nine sections.
