The former community of Mariazell includes the village of Mariazell, the hamlets of Rotsee (merged with Mariazell), Teufen and Untere Mühlbauern and the farms of Alte Ziegelhütte, Berken, Burschachen, Gaisfurt, Harzwald, Hirschbühl, Kohlholz, Lehen and Maden.

history

Community merger

On December 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg , the previously independent communities Locherhof and Mariazell were formed into the new community Eschbronn. Both communities can look back on a long history.

Locherhof

Locherhof coat of arms

In 1326, Locherhof was mentioned in connection with a legal dispute over the Affolterbachhof, fiefdom of the Rottenmünster monastery , in terms of its legal affiliation with its woad to Locherhof. The location of the Affolterbachhof is unknown.

The Locherhof, which gives it its name, does not appear in documents until the 15th century. It stood on today's outskirts of Locherhof in the direction of Oberlochenhof. The Rottenmünster monastery had tax and defense sovereignty . Since 1591 Locherhof was under the lower court district of Buchenberg . Until 1775, Locherhof consisted of only two courtyards, the upper and lower courtyards, which were demolished in 1748 and rebuilt as the middle courtyard on the Tischneck in Hardt . In its place the Deisenhof - Schönbronnerstr. 113 - built. Only now was another courtyard built in the course of a division. Then more and more buildings were built, so that at the beginning of the 19th century there were already 50 houses in Locherhof.

From 1803 Locherhof was completely transferred to Württemberg . In 1806 the village became a legally independent municipality (then with 40 houses and 32 inhabitants). From 1808 Locherhof belonged to the Oberamt Rottweil .

Before the immigration, which took place with the consent of the Rottenmünster monastery, the proportion of the Protestant population increased. Therefore, the place broke away from the parish of Dunningen and was assigned to the Protestant parish of Weiler. In 1851 the parish of Schönbronn was founded and the Locherhofer were subordinated to it. In 1959 the Protestant church and the rectory were built.

A New Apostolic community had existed since 1939; it built its own house of prayer in 1960 and enlarged in 1979.

The silver goods factory founded in 1873 by the manufacturer Carl Härdtner with its old and newer factory buildings left recognizable traces of industrialization . Initially, the only plan was to provide the Locherhofer residents with home work from the jewelry industry town of Pforzheim. When this failed, Carl Härdtner got a technician from Pforzheim who trained workers in the former school building. Silver was alloyed and melted in the kitchen of the teacher's apartment. Branches were opened in Dunningen , Stetten and Hochmössingen . The company's headquarters were relocated to Pforzheim in 1891.

The property of the Locherhof cemetery, on which Carl Härdtner and his family members are buried, as well as the newly built parish hall are donations from the manufacturer. The Protestant parish was also given consideration. She received a plot of land for the construction of a new church and funds for a planned but not completed church building. Carl Härdtner KG is still active today with the production and retail of jewelry (chain and bijouterie) in silver in Pforzheim.

Mariazell

Mariazell - the place is only attested from the late Middle Ages - is said to have been a foundation of the Reichenau monastery in 1275 as Cella Mariae ( Maria's cell ) . In addition to its early history, the age of the place remains largely unclear. In 1444 Mariazell, at that time a "town", was destroyed in the feuds between imperial cities and noble families, which were quite frequent at the time. Mariazell burned down in 1507, was again destroyed by flames in 1633 and again destroyed by fire in 1704. But the place has obviously been able to retain its central function. The latter is still symbolized today by the mighty parish church with the equally mighty church tower.

A relative reference point for the age of Mariazell gives the Markus church and the church tower in the center of the village. The mighty church tower with its "material originality" is particularly impressive. The chronological layers of Mariazell's history between Romanesque and Renaissance can be read from it. The two lower tower floors - barely structured - are of late Romanesque origin, made of red sandstone and sometimes marked with stonemasons . This lower part of the tower is rounded off by four gargoyles, placed at each of the four corners, which close the edges of the lower part of the tower towards the top and initiate the transition to the octagonal central building. These two octagonal floors, built in the Gothic style, contain eight Gothic tracery windows twice. The tower is crowned by a stone dome, the curve of which with its eight ridges accommodates the octagonal central structure of the tower. The middle section and dome are marked with the year 1609 and 1608 , respectively , and the initials of a master builder VR.

In addition to the tower, note the nave of the single-nave church, which ends in a tower choir. Corresponding to the basement of the tower, the choir dates from the late Romanesque period and is provided with a ribbed vault. In the adjoining room of the (today's) baptistery, a late Gothic reticulated vault on Romanesque short columns has been preserved. In the church the Gothic figures of a standing Mother of God and Saint Catherine can be seen, the crucifixion group on the front wall in the choir is early baroque; The baptismal font dates from 1706 and the statue of Johannes Nepomuk from around 1780 . Finally, on the outer wall of today's sacristy, there is a man's head that looks more antique than Christian.

A farmhouse from Mariazell, built around 1606, was dismantled between 1993 and 1998 and rebuilt in the Neuhausen ob Eck open-air museum . Shortly before the work was completed, the building burned down. It was faithfully reconstructed in 2001.

Until the mediatization, Mariazell belonged to the Schramberg rule , which had been a part of Upper Austria since 1583 .

Mariazell came to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 and was assigned to the Oberamt Oberndorf in 1810 . The administrative reform of April 25, 1938 led to membership in the Rottweil district .

After the Second World War, Mariazell and Locherhof fell into the French zone of occupation and thus came to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1947 , which was incorporated into the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.
