Luna County is a county in the southern state of New Mexico in the United States . The county has 25,095 residents. The county was established on March 16, 1901. The county seat is Deming .

The county covers an area of 7,680 square kilometers. Most of the county is flat lowlands, meadows, or wasteland. In the county are the Cook's Range , Florida Mountains and Hermanas Mountains . The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: Sierra County , Doña Ana County , Chihuahua (State, Mexico), Grant County, and Hidalgo County .

One place has National Historic Landmark status , the Village of Columbus and Camp Furlong , which commemorates the Pancho Villa raid on Columbus in 1916. Eight buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 17, 2018).

The county had a population of 25,016 as of the 2000 census . There were 9,397 households and 6,596 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.30% White, 0.94% African American, 1.11% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 20.23% other races Groups; 3.08% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 57.70% of the population.

Of the 9,397 households, 33.90% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 53.60% were married couples living together, 12.40% were single mothers. 29.80% were not families. 26.40% are single households and 14.00% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.20.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.00% residents under 18 years of age, 7.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.50% between 45 and 64 years of age 18.20% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.20 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 93.20 males.
