Martin Lichtmesz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Lichtmesz (a modification of his real name: Martin Semlitsch ; * 1976 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist and translator of the New Right .

Life

Lichtmesz was born in Vienna in 1976. After years in Berlin-Kreuzberg , where he claims to have studied at a film academy, he now lives in Vienna again. He was active in the black scene (a " Neofolk scene-goer") and author and director of the short film Der Wald (2002), for which the Viennese band Novy Svet contributed the music. In a book contribution to the Gothic scene from 2010, Lichtmesz stated that “cultural hegemony is firmly in left-liberal hands”, which is why representatives of the neo-folk could not have established a right-wing subculture .

He initially wrote u. a. for the Twilight Magazine , the New Order and strangely free . From 2005 he began to work for Junge Freiheit (JF) primarily as a film critic and wrote articles about Pier Paolo Pasolini , Luchino Visconti and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg , among others . Since 2007 he has been part of the authors of the new right-wing magazine Sezession, for which Götz Kubitschek is responsible .

In 2010 he published an “experience report” ( Volker Weiß ) commemorating February 13, 1945 in Dresden. He had previously criticized the organizer ( Junge Landsmannschaft Ostdeutschland ).

When publishing Antaios Martin Lichtmesz since 2010 author, translator and editor. In 2011 , together with Manfred Kleine-Hartlage, he published the anthology Defend Europe with essays by the Norwegian blogger Fjordman , which the right-wing terrorist Anders Behring Breivik referred to. Lichtmesz also emerges as a translator of “French key works of identitarian literature” (Volker Weiß), for example of works by Jean Raspail and Renaud Camus ; White counts him among the Austrian identities. He and Kubitschek were looking for “cooperation” with the “identities”, as Kellershohn put it: In 2012 they visited the “International Convent” of the Bloc identitaire in Orange , France. Martin Lichtmesz also maintains close contacts with the Austrian branch of the Identitarian Movement, such as Martin Sellner , and with representatives of the American Alt-Right such as Jared Taylor and Kevin MacDonald .

Political positions and activities

Right-wing extremism researcher Helmut Kellershohn from the Duisburg Institute for Language and Social Research (DISS) attributes him to the " young conservative camp".

The reviewer of the Leipziger Volkszeitung stated about Martin Lichtmesz's contribution to the Gothic scene: "The question of how brown some black sheep actually are is approached by Martin Lichtmesz from the right."

Observers like Gürcan Kökgiran and Kristina Nottbohm consider him one of the “most important authors” of the Secession ; the journalist Patrick Bahners (2016) described him on FAZ.net as the "smartest head of the group of authors around the right-wing think tank 'Institute for State Policy' in Schnellroda".

Ines Aftenberger attests Lichtmesz to polemicize against the concept of human dignity . She refers to Lichtmesz 'statements that the “assumption that the postulate of the unconditional human dignity of the individual presupposes that all people are' equal '” is an “error”. Therefore, according to Lichtmesz, it is "problematic to speak of human dignity as if it were a fact without preconditions". “Heaven itself” is “ hierarchically ordered and by no means a collection of equals”.

In 2012, Volker Weiß found with regard to the anthology Defending Europe that “Lichtmesz and [...] Kleine-Hartlage as advocates of the ' conservative revolution ' in Germany in relevant circles between the magazines ' Junge Freiheit ', 'Sezession' and the pro-movement present ”. Both shared the “political agenda” of blogger Fjordman and endeavored to “save” him in their comments. In addition, for Lichtmesz, with the victory of the Allies in 1945, a "disease" invaded Europe, as symptoms he cites a decline in the birth rate, loss of history, financial markets and the disappearance of family values and established structures and blames those who, in his words, are "today the governments of the world control and drift in front of you ”. Lichtmesz therefore also criticizes an Islamophobia like that of Michael Stürzenberger , since in his view this only leads to “ surrogate identities such as liberal generalities or blind USA or Israel partisanism”. Based on these views, Volker Weiß Lichtmesz therefore attests to an "anti- universalist ideology including its sub-forms of anti-Marxism , anti- liberalism and anti-Semitism ". In addition, Lichtmesz has "a pronounced weakness for [...] an anti-civilizational hyper masculinism ". The political scientist Elke Rajal stated that Lichtmesz “ opposed the findings from anti-Semitism research to common sense”, referring to the following words from Lichtmesz in the secession : “The claim that 'anti-Semitism' is to be referred to as a pipe dream is, that has nothing to do with the actual behavior and political interests of Jews, offends the intelligence and experience in the sharpest way and is [...] [e] a pure political claim. "

According to Simone Rafael and John Baldauf by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation Lichtmesz made the "civilization decay" of the Society for the assassination Anders Behring Breivik on the blog of secession responsible.

Gudrun Hentges , Gürcan Kökgiran and Kristina Nottbohm therefore count Martin Lichtmesz with Götz Kubitschek, Felix Menzel and Johannes Schüller among the central figures of the Identitarian Movement in Germany. Even before the movement became known in Germany, those responsible had adopted the conception of the French movement, according to the observers. According to Kellershohn, Lichtmesz sees himself as the "mouthpiece of the so-called 'Identitarian Movement'". When it comes to immigration, he draws an “ apocalyptic picture”. The "ideological [] key word" Lichtmesz is connected to the Identitarian Movement of Austria (IBÖ), which is classified as right-wing extremist .

Participation in Scandinavian neo-Nazi conferences

Martin Lichtmesz spoke on March 30, 2019 as a speaker at the right-wing extremist "Scandza Forum" in Stockholm. The Ukrainian Olena Semenyaka from the right-wing extremist Azov regiment , who previously posed with a swastika and a Nazi salute , also spoke at this meeting .

reception

Can only one god save us?

In 2015, the editor Gerhard Lechner ( Wiener Zeitung ) named his book Can only God save us? a "sincere, a beautiful, a great book". It is "largely a lament for a Europe that gives up on itself, that has lost touch with its cultural and spiritual roots." In a later edition, Elisabeth Litwak - on behalf of a Viennese group of the Antifa - criticized Lechner's review, because Lichtmesz is an "officially known right-wing extremist".

Live with leftists

Tilman Krause said in Die Welt : "Anyone who has ever looked into the funny breviary 'Living with Left' by Caroline Sommerfeld and Martin Lichtmesz can only respectfully take off their hats at how well the authors know their left-wing Pappenheimers.

The literary critic Ijoma Mangold wrote in Die Zeit that the book Living with Leftists had many blind spots, but it also had a keen eye for the blind spots of the left-liberal public. However, the fact that Sommerfeld and Lichtmesz attach the label “left” to everyone who rejects and opposes their positions is the point at which they would make it most decidedly too easy for themselves. Sometimes you have to laugh when you read Living with Leftists . The Homeric joke of Talking With Rights (by Per Leo , Maximilian Steinbeis and Daniel-Pascal Zorn ) but then leaps further and higher and also differs in terms of intellectual honesty, because while Mit Linken live his caustic joke exclusively with a view to the not -to bring right opponents into action, talking with rights would take a close look at the rhetorical and media rituals of rights and non-rights alike. The recurring talk of “ guilt cult ” and “national masochism ” is the greatest blind spot in the thinking of the right. They would not see that the Germans dealt with their historical guilt in a sovereign, reflective and therefore more self-confident manner. The confrontation with it is not masochism, but historical awareness.
