The A-Divion League (formerly Martyr's Memorial ANFA A-Division League ) was the top division in Nepalese football until 2011/12 . Since then, the Nepal National League has been the highest league in the country.

The league has been held under its current name since 1954.

The league is (as of June 2014) sponsored by Red Bull .

history

As early as the 1947/48 season, the first official football tournament under the name Ram Janaki football tournament took place in Nepal, launched by the then Prime Minister Padam Shamsher . Since 1954, the league has been run by the national football association.

RCT won the trophy three times in a row (1971-73). In 1973 the All Nepal Football Association was founded. In the beginning, there were repeated interruptions and missed seasons due to a lack of financial resources or other reasons (for example, the tournament had to be stopped for several years in the 90s due to political and economic unrest). Due to disagreements within the association, the last championship took place in the 2006/07 season. Master became the first time the Mahendra Police Club . A continuation of the league was planned for October 2009 under the leadership of ANFA . The National Sports Association NSC also planned its own league under the same name as the current one. The clubs of the leagues are divided and tend between the ANFA and the NSC, which is why it was not yet clear which clubs would ultimately participate in the ANFA league planned for October 2009. From 2010 to 2014 it was played again before the championship was again suspended for four years. In 2018/19 another season followed, in which the Manang Marsyangdi Club won the championship for the sixth time.

Current season

14 clubs took part in the 2018/19 season. Four teams were excluded prior to the season.
