Life

Michael Stavarič came to Austria in 1979 at the age of seven from what was then Czechoslovakia . Stavarič then studied Bohemian Studies and Journalism / Communication Studies at the University of Vienna . In his diploma thesis (1998) he devoted himself to the topic "The language structures of Czech headlines in Mladá fronta Dnes and Blesk - an investigation of the factors influencing newspaper language in Czech print media".

After graduation he worked as Executive Coordinator of the President of the International PEN Club and Secretary of the Czech Ambassador a. D. Jiří Gruša and as a lecturer for inline skating at the Sports University Vienna . He has repeatedly worked as a reviewer for Die Presse and the Viennese city magazine Falter, as well as for various publishers as a reviewer for Czech literature. Numerous publications in various publishers, magazines and anthologies followed.

Michael Stavarič lives today as a freelance writer in Vienna.

Michael Stavarič's work, which in addition to poems, novels, essays and stories also includes children's books, is characterized by a creative approach to language. The formal examination of the German language is and remains the focal point of his literary work. In his work he repeatedly combines the surreal with the absurd and the grotesque with the ironic.
