The Junkers K 51 / Ki 20 was a modification of the G 38 passenger aircraft of the German Junkers Flugzeugwerk AG with the aim of constructing a bomber for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force .

history

In 1931, the Japanese aircraft construction company Mitsubishi Nainenki Kabushiki Kaisha commissioned Junkers to convert the G 38 passenger aircraft into a large bomber, which was to be built in Japan as the Ki 20 type . The Dessau designers designed a type of model called the Junkers K 51 , which had only very minor changes to the G 38 passenger aircraft that was already in production. The license, construction plans and a shell were sold to the Japanese in 1932. In the same year, Mitsubishi began producing the bomber under the name Ki 20 . With the support of Junkers engineers and technicians, all-round defense using machine guns and a device for transporting 5,000 kg of bombs were integrated. After the strong bombers had been deployed a few times, they were retired in 1941.
