NGC 6518 is a 13.9 mag bright compact galaxy of the Hubble type C in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 309 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years across .

The object was discovered on June 18, 1884 by Édouard Stephan .
