NGC 7284 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 and lies in the constellation Aquarius on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 212 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter . Together with NGC 7285 , it forms the galaxy pair Arp 93 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with an elliptical companion on one arm (Arp catalog) .

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on October 26, 1785 .
