Nadiya Olisarenko ( Ukrainian Надія Олізаренко , Eng. Transcription Nadiya Olizarenko, birth name Russian Надежда Фёдоровна Мушта - Nadezhda Fedorovna Muschta - Nadezhda Mushta; * 28. November 1953 in Bryansk , Russian SFSR ; † 17th February 2017 in Odessa ) was a Ukrainian middle distance runner , who started for the Soviet Union in 1980 Olympic champion in the 800-meter run .

In 1977 she became a member of the Soviet national athletics team and in 1978 she had her first international successes at the European Championships in Prague as the winner of two silver medals in the 800 m and in the 4 x 400 m relay . In 1979 she won over 800 m gold at the Universiade in Mexico City and came second at the World Cup in Montreal . Shortly afterwards she married the Ukrainian obstacle runner Serhiy Olisarenko .

Shortly after she had set a world record over 800 meters with 1: 54.85 minutes in Moscow on June 12, 1980 , she entered the Olympic Games in Moscow. Over 800 m she won the gold medal in front of her two compatriots Olga Minejewa (silver) and Tatjana Prowidochina (bronze) in the world record time of 1: 53.43 minutes. Over 1500 m she won bronze behind her compatriot Tatjana Kasankina (gold) and the GDR runner Christiane Wartenberg (silver).

She also won silver over 800 m at the European Indoor Championships in Piraeus in 1985 and came third at the World Cup in Canberra . A victory at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart was followed by seventh place at the 1987 World Championships in Rome . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , she reached the semifinals.

She ended her career after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. Then she worked, together with her husband, as a trainer in the Ukrainian city of Odessa . In 2015 she became seriously ill with ALS . On February 17, 2017, Olisarenko died at the age of 63.
