At the XX. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , 14 gymnastics competitions took place, eight for men and six for women. The Munich Olympic Hall was the venue for the gymnastics competitions . The men's competitions were dominated by the Japanese, who won 16 out of 24 medals. Among the women, the gymnasts of the USSR dominated the action with 10 out of 18 possible medals.
