The Olympus Range ( German Olympus Mountains ) is a mountain range in Antarctica .

location

It lies between Victoria Valley and McKelvey Valley in the north and Wright Valley in the south, in the Antarctic Dry Valleys area in Victoria Land . The mountain range extends from the plateau of Victoria Land in the west to McMurdo Sound in the east. It is about 75 km long, at its widest point about 11 km wide. Its mean heights are around 1,300 to 1,600 m. The mountain range is cut roughly in the middle by the 600 m high Bull Pass . The Olympus Range is part of the Transantarctic Mountains . Participants in a 1958-1959 campaign as part of Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions , which also mapped the area, named it after the seat of the gods of Greek mythology .
