The Pampachiri district is located in the Andahuaylas province in the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 7, 1961. It has an area of 591 km². The 2017 census counted 2318 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2317, in 2007 it was 2478. The district administration is located in the 3362 m high village of Pampachiri with 672 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pampachiri is located about 60 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Andahuaylas .
Geographical location
The Pampachiri district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme southwest of the Andahuaylas province. It has a longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE direction of 49 km and a maximum width of 15 km. The Río Chicha (also Río Soras or Río Condormarca) flows north-northwest along the western district boundary.
The district of Pampachiri borders in the southwest on the districts Coracora ( province Parinacochas ) and Lucanas ( province Lucanas ), in the northwest on the districts San Pedro de Larcay and Soras (both in the province Sucre ), in the north on the district Pomacocha , in the northeast the district of Capaya , in the east to the district of Sañayca and in the southeast to the district of Cotaruse (the last three districts are in the province of Aymaraes ).
