Petrovice I (German Petrowitz I ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 13 kilometers southwest of Čáslav and belongs to the Okres Kutná Hora .

geography

Petrovice I is located in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in the headwaters of numerous streams. To the northeast is the Zbožnov reservoir.

Neighboring towns are Újezdec in the north, Senetín in the northeast, Damírov in the east, Dobrovítov in the southeast, Dědice and Michalovice in the south, Víckovice in the southwest, Bludov and Zhoř in the west and Chvalov and Plhov in the northwest.

history

Petrovice was probably founded at the transition from the 11th to the 12th century. Legend has it that the area belonged to the three brothers Petr, Jan and Čáslav, each of whom founded settlements named after them Petrovice, Janovice and Čáslav . In 1352 Petrovice was first mentioned in a document and was the seat of the Petrovice Vladiken family . In the area there were other settlements that are now extinct; to the south-east was Lhota and to the south-west were Krupčina, Malá Spálená and Velká Spálená.

After the Thirty Years War Heinrich von Haugwitz bought Petrovice on Biskupitz. He was followed by Hermann Ladislaus von Graebnitz (Heřman Ladislav Hrobnický z Hrobnic). In 1658 Litmír Viduna Obytecký from Obytce bought the goods. The Obytecký were the last owners of the Petrovice manor, which was then attached to the Janovičky manor. The Counts of Thürheim sold Janovičky with all accessories in 1724 to the municipality of Kutná Hora . Since that time Petrovice was part of the Červené Janovice estate . In 1819 the one-class village school started teaching. In 1891 the old church was replaced by a new building.

After the relinquishment of patrimonial Petrovice became an independent municipality in the Kuttenberg district in 1850. Since 1921 the village has been named Petrovice I to distinguish it from a place of the same name ( Petrovice II ) belonging to the same district . In 1977 the school was closed.
