Pino Presti (actually: Giuseppe Prestipino Giarritta ; born August 23, 1943 in Milan ) is an Italian bass player , arranger , composer , orchestra director and music producer .

Pino Presti started making music at an early age, first as a bass player, then as an arranger, composer, orchestra director, music producer. Among his collaborations in various music genres such as jazz , pop , funk , soul , names such as: Mina , Gerry Mulligan , Astor Piazzolla , Quincy Jones , Wilson Pickett , Shirley Bassey , Maynard Ferguson , Stéphane Grappelli or Aldemaro Romero can be found .

Pino Presti, son of Arturo Prestipino Giarritta, who was a recognized violinist, began his musical education at the age of 6, which he has continued since then. He started his musical career at the age of 17 as a singer and bassist in night clubs, as well as an instrumentalist in recording studios. When his engagements as a musician became too time-consuming, and despite a contract as a singer in the Durium of Milano, he decided to concentrate on his favorite music. After a long career as a bass player in recording studios as well as on tours, Presti made a name for himself as an arranger and orchestra leader (up to his last public performances in the Bussoladomani Theater in 1978), as well as for Mina . Between the 1970s and 1980s he worked with B. Wilson Pickett , Shirley Bassey , Quincy Jones , Gerry Mulligan , Astor Piazzolla , Maynard Ferguson , Shirley Bunnie Foy , Stéphane Grappelli , Severino Gazzelloni , Franco Cerri , Enrico Intra , Bruno De Filippi , Gianni Bedori , Tullio De Piscopo , Aldemaro Romero , Eartha Kitt , Brian Auger , Caterina Valente , Bill Conti , George Aghedo and Maurice Vander together.

For the recording of Libertango , together with Astor Piazzolla and Summit by Gerry Mulligan and Astor Piazzolla, he appears under his real name Giuseppe Prestipino, as well as in the albums La Onda Màxima and Onda Nueva Instrumental by the pianist-composer Aldemaro Romero.

In April 1975, during his European tour with Mulligan and Piazzolla, he also played at Olympia (Paris) and at the World Music Festival in Palma . The band line-up is as follows: Gerry Mulligan (baritone saxophone), Astor Piazzolla (bandoneon), Tom Fay (piano), Pino Presti (electric bass), Tullio De Piscopo (drums), Waldo de los Rios (organ), Sergio Farina (Guitar). Gerry Mulligan will give the pre-concert; this is followed by Astor Piazzolla and the joint concert for the interpretation of some of the tracks on the album Summit .

1st Round (label)

In 1976 he realized and produced the first Italian album dance-funk 1st Round for the label Atlantic Records with 'catchy tunes' such as: Smile , Funky Bump , L'estate di Laura and Sunny .

In 1977, Pino Presti signed a contract with Rai 2 as orchestra director and composer of original soundtracks for the television show 'Auditorio A', conducted by Stefano De Stefani. This gives him the opportunity to conduct a large orchestra with 56 musicians and the following interpreters: Gino Paoli , Sergio Endrigo , Milva , Pino Daniele , Maynard Ferguson , Angelo Branduardi , Rino Gaetano , Fausto Leali , Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and Giorgio Baiocco. This is followed by 'C'era due volte' (1980), directed by Enzo Trapani and 'Il Cappello sulle Ventitré' (1983) directed by Fernanda Turvani.

From 1980 until today, apart from the compositions for television productions of television series, he realized and produced albums under various pseudonyms for labels such as: Polydor , Polygram , Baby Records, Barclay, Edizioni Curci, Durium, Ricordi , Joker, Saar; as well as for the independent labels: Emergency, Soul Xpression, Level One, Self.

Pino Presti has lived in France since 2004 . In 2009 he realized and produced the album A la Costa Sud - La Musique de La Côte d'Azur (publisher: Curci), with 28 singers and musicians from different countries and continents, who often perform on the Côte d'Azur .

In 2011 he created and composed the five-hour original soundtrack exclusively for the 'Grand Héritage Hôtel Group' (and all associated media) , which integrates different musical styles: from classical to jazz , through and world music to ambient music .

2013 Presti realized and produced the album Shirley Bunnie Foy (60th Anniversary) .

In 2016 he composed and produced the original soundtrack for the advertising campaign of the Italian company Scavolini .

Martial arts

From 1967 to 1985 Presti attended courses from Hiroshi Shirai , Taiji Kase , Hidetaka Nishiyama , Keinosuke Enoeda , Takeshi Naito and Hideo Ochi in karate and Goshin-do. In 1987 he acquired the 5th Dan .
