Radio Wuppertal is a private radio station that belongs to the group of NRW local radio stations . It started broadcasting on October 6, 1991. The editor-in-chief is Georg Rose .

Like all local radio stations in North Rhine-Westphalia, Radio Wuppertal is based on the so-called two-pillar model. The two pillars are on the one hand the tour operator association (VG) and on the other hand the operating company (BG). The VG is responsible for the content of the program, for the appointment of the editor-in-chief and the editorial team. It is made up of representatives of the “socially relevant groups”. The VG members work on a voluntary basis as a registered association . The BG is responsible for providing the broadcasting technology and financing. She is not allowed to influence the program content or the program design. The operating company is allowed to sell local advertising time. The shareholders of Radio Wuppertal are the Rheinische Post (75%) and the city of Wuppertal. The separation of program content and finances is stipulated and regulated by the State Media Act of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Radio Wuppertal broadcasts a full 24-hour program in AC format. Eight hours of broadcasting per day are produced locally in the studio in Wuppertal, the remaining hours running the coat program of Radio NRW . This is a program without a name of its own.
