HRH Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester , KG , GCVO ( Richard Alexander Walter George , born August 26, 1944 in Barnwell Manor , Northamptonshire ) is a member of the British royal family , grandson of King George V and cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.

His father was Henry, 1st Duke of Gloucester , Prince of Great Britain and Ireland, the third son of King George V. His mother was Alice, Duchess of Gloucester , daughter of John Montagu-Douglas-Scott , 7th Duke of Buccleuch and 9th . Duke of Queensberry .

As the patrilineal grandson of the monarch, he has had the title His Royal Highness since birth . At the time of his birth, he was fifth in line to the British throne. When he was four months old, he and his family moved to Australia because his father became Governor General there. In 1947 they returned after a change of government.

After attending Eton College , he studied architecture at Magdalene College at the University of Cambridge . He is admitted to the Royal Institute of British Architects as an Associate . When he wanted to start working as an architect, his older brother William had an accident in 1972 . When his father died on June 10, 1974, he inherited his title of nobility as 2nd Duke of Gloucester , 2nd Earl of Ulster and 2nd Baron Culloden . A seat in the House of Lords was associated with the titles until the House of Lords reform came into force in 1999 .

On June 6, 1972, Prince Richard married Birgitte van Deurs , the daughter of Asger Henriksen and Vivian van Deurs. The couple has their official residence at Kensington Palace , and also rented Barnwell Manor from 1994 to 1995 . You have three children. Their children do not hold any royal titles and do not perform representational tasks, but they regularly stand behind their father in the line of succession . As his marriage apparent, the eldest son bears the courtesy title Earl of Ulster , the later daughters, as children of a duke, use the courtesy title Lady .
