Robert Schwarz (born December 17, 1887 in Berlin ; † June 13, 1963 in Aachen ) was a German professor of chemistry.

Life

After graduating from high school in Spandau , Schwarz attended the ceramic college in Bunzlau (see Bunzlau ceramics ). From 1905 he studied chemistry at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-University and became a member of the Corps Borussia Breslau , where he was active with Eberhard Buchwald . He later moved to the Technical University of Charlottenburg and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . With a dissertation on clay and African earth doctorate he in 1910 to Dr. phil. In 1914 he completed his habilitation. As a participant in the First World War , he was seriously wounded . In 1919 the University of Freiburg appointed him associate professor for inorganic and analytical chemistry. The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main appointed him to its chair for this subject in 1928 . In 1933 he became a member of the NSDAP . On April 1, 1934, he accepted the call from Albertus University in Königsberg , where he stayed until the East Prussian Operation (1945) . In 1946/47 he came to the TH Karlsruhe . 1948 appointed him RWTH Aachen as professor of inorganic chemistry and electrochemistry . As successor to Wilhelm Fucks , he was rector of the RWTH in the academic years 1952/53 and 1953/54 . Schwarz mainly dealt with the molecular chemistry of non-metals ( silicon , germanium ), halogens and peroxides . In 1956 he retired . His students included Annelore Köster-Pflugmacher , Hans Walter Hennicke , Wilhelm Kuchen , Martin Schmeißer , Peter Wolfgang Schenk and Ulrich Wannagat .
