Rzeczyca Wielka (German Reetz , until 1928 Groß Reetz ) is a village directly on the eastern border of the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship and belongs to the urban and rural municipality Polanów ( Pollnow ) in the powiat Koszaliński ( Köslin district ).

Geographical location

Rzeczyca is located 19 kilometers northeast of the former district town Miastko ( Rummelsburg ) and 40 kilometers east of today's district metropolis Koszalin ( Köslin ) on the voivodship road 206 , which leads from Koszalin via Polanów to Miastko. There is a rail connection via the Przytocko ( Pritzig ) station on the Piła – Ustka ( Schneidemühl-Stolpmünde ) railway line, six kilometers away . Between 1903 and 1945 Rzeczyca Wielka was itself a train station on the Reichsbahn route from Gramenz to Zollbrück .

Place name

The place Reetz (the name occurs several times in Germany) was named before 1928 to distinguish it from the place Klein Reetz (now in Polish: Rzeczyca Mała), which is only two kilometers away, with the addition of "Groß" Reetz . The Polish naming takes up this distinction again.

history

Groß Reetz is considered a settlement in the great land grab of the 16th century. In 1717 four cottages were recorded here , and farmers did not appear until the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century the Vorwerk Karlshof and Amalienhof (later also called "Steinberg") were laid out. From 1839 at the latest the fulling mill existed , which later became a popular excursion destination and was under monument protection from 1942 (today desolate).

The first owner of Groß Reetz was Peter Lettow on Pritzig (Przytocko). The property was later often divided in the family, parts also came into the possession of members of the von Glasenapp and von Below families through sale and lease . From 1796 Colonel Karl Ernst von Lettow was the sole owner of Groß Reetz. It remained in the possession of his descendants until 1945.

In 1812 Groß Reetz had 134 inhabitants. Their number rose to 253 by 1843, was 225 in 1885 and 1925, rose to 330 by 1933 and fell to 275 by 1939.

Until 1945 the municipality of Reetz belonged to the Rummelsburg district of the Prussian province of Pomerania . The community consisted of the residential areas of the train station Groß Reetz , Chausseehaus , Forth , Groß Reetz, Karlshof , Klein Reetz , Lattenkathen and Walkmühle .

After 1945, under the name Rzeczyca Wielka, it became part of Gmina Polanów in the Koszaliński powiat in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (1975 to 1998 Koszalin Voivodeship ). The place now has 300 inhabitants.

church

Before 1945, most of the population of Reetz was of Protestant denomination. At that time there was no church in the village itself. The villagers were parish in the Pritzig parish (today in Polish: Przytocko), which in 1940 had a total of 1186 parishioners. It was located in the parish of Rummelsburg (Miastko) in the eastern district of the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Superintendent Friedrich Dittmar .

Since 1945 the population of Rzeczyca Wielka is almost without exception Catholic . In 1998 a church was built in the village, which is consecrated in the name of "Divine Mercy". It is a branch church in the parish Polanów ( Pollnow ) in the Deanery Polanów in the Diocese of Köslin-Kolberg of the Catholic Church in Poland . Evangelical church members living here are parish in the Kreuzkirche parish in Słupsk ( Stolp ), which belongs to the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland . The nearest branch church is the village church in Wołcza Wielka ( Groß Volz ).

school

Around 1730 a schoolmaster was appointed in Groß Reetz, even if there was no apartment. For a long time, the job holders had to live with farmers, which is why it was extremely difficult to fill positions. From 1796 to 1828 Christoph Eggert was the school owner, in 1927 a new school building was built, in which in 1937 a teacher taught 41 school children.
