Salle is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 282 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Pescara , Abruzzo region .

geography

The community extends over approx. 21 km². Part of the territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the Majella National Park .

One of the districts (fractions) is Salle Nuova.

The neighboring municipalities are: Bolognano , Caramanico Terme , Corfinio , Pratola Peligna , Roccacasale , Sulmona and Tocco da Casauria .

The village in the Appennia is located on the northern edge of the Majella National Park and 52 kilometers from the Adriatic coast.

history

The historic city center dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. At the beginning of the 20th century, 1700 inhabitants lived in the community. In 1915 the community was hit by a strong earthquake and many people left the settlement. The population has decreased almost constantly in the last decades, from 1117 inhabitants in 1951 to 312 inhabitants in 2001. The reason is that many young people cannot find work in the village and the area is also prone to earthquakes.

Worth seeing

The main architectural landmark of the village is the Castello di Salle . The castle was built in the 11th century. There are several museums in the area: the Castle Museum Castello di Salle , the Archaeological Museum, Natural History Museum and the Ethnographic Museum.

Viticulture

In the municipality of vines are varieties Montepulciano for the DOC - wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown.
