history

The rule of Langenrain was owned by the Lords of Bodman in the Middle Ages , but after the Thirty Years War they sold Langenrain to the Lords of Ulm . In 1684, Marx Anton von Ulm began building a palace in place of a former Wittumhof , which was completed in 1686. In 1814 the castle came back to the Lords of Bodman by succession, who used the building as a widow's residence until 1936. After that, Langenrain Castle served as a hunting lodge and residence of the count's forester until 1945. In the first years after World War II , the castle was used as accommodation for French soldiers and prisoners of war. In 1967 the interior was converted into a hotel, which was located in the castle until 1974. From 1992 to 2006 the castle was a further training center of the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences . In 2005 the site was acquired by Maximilian Graf von Oppersdorff , who had renovation work carried out on the palace, the outbuilding and the palace gardens. The castle has served as the family's private residence since 2008.
