The small castle was built by the Lords of Bodman at the end of the 16th century . It was first mentioned in 1620. From 1593, documents were issued in Espasingen Castle.

After the destruction of Altbodman Castle in the Thirty Years' War on August 15, 1643 by French troops of the governor of Überlingen, General Count Comte de Corvaldem, and subsequent razing , the noble family settled in Espasingen Castle. The castle itself was also destroyed in the Thirty Years War. The castle was rebuilt by Hans von Bodman and his wife Maria Salome Schindelin von Unterraitenau between 1682 and 1685.

It was not until 1760 that the noble family moved into Bodman Castle . Numerous lords of Bodman lived in the castle. Last time Baron Johann Adam von und zu Bodman died there in 1816. Espasingen was the seat of power for almost 200 years.

In 1839 the castle was converted into the Count's Bodman brewery with an attached restaurant . A devastating fire broke out on March 28, 1892. Most of the former castle building burned down, which led to the destruction of the historical building fabric. Baron Franz von Bodman arranged for a simplified reconstruction in the same year, in fact a new building, so that beer could be brewed again in spring 1893. Beer production was stopped in 1968.

As a follow-up use, the Adler brewery Göggingen set up a malt house and a beverage wholesaler, which were closed a few years ago. The silos are now used to store maize and grain.

The “Bräustüble” is located in the east wing, the west wing and the central building are empty.

investment

The palace complex was originally a three-wing structure, which was characterized by the two-storey volute gable of the side wings. The castle chapel was located in the right wing of the building with a bell support. The castle is privately owned by the von Bodman family.

Today's image of the facility is shaped by the fire that was destroyed in 1892 and its long-term use as a brewery.

Two separate buildings also belong to the overall complex. One is inhabited, the other is empty. The first was built in 1902, the other in 1910.
