Tudoburg

The Tudoburg castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle at 615.8  m above sea level. NHN near Honstetten im Hegau , a district of Eigeltingen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Konstanz in Germany .

Geographical location

On the road from Eckartsbrunn to Honstetten, at the cemetery just before the entrance to Honstetten, a path branches off to the right. With a slight slope it leads to a forest in which you can see a small overgrown wall after about 200 meters.

history

The origins of the castle are unknown. The Lords of Honstetten are believed to be the builders between 1050 and 1150. The original name was Harperg or Hardberg and was later renamed after Tuto von Wagenhausen in Tudoburg .

In 1362 the castle fell to the Lords of Hewen . When the rule of Hewen fell to Austria in 1398, Tudoburg was also there.

In 1404 the Counts of Lupfen-Stühlingen became the new masters of the Tudoburg. After their death, the castle fell to the Counts of Pappenheim and the Fürstenbergs became the new owners through marriage .

In 1839 the castle was added to the rule of Schloss Langenstein . The Counts of Douglas inherited the Langenstein estate in 1872 and thus also became the owners of the Tudoburg.

The time of the destruction of the Tudoburg is not known, but the castle complex was already in ruins before the Thirty Years War . The outer bailey was already being used for agriculture in 1588.

description

From the former castle you can guess the old, very large outer bailey. The foundations of an old tower can still be seen to the south of the entrance . The large, almost flat outer bailey is bordered by a rampart now lined with trees. If you cross the outer bailey, you can see the impressive wall of the palace at the other end between the trees . The way to the hall leads through a deep ditch . The other sides of the rest of the hall slope steeply to the valley.
