Blumenfeld Castle
The Blumenfeld Castle is a castle in Blumenfeld at Tengen in the Konstanz district . Originally, a castle belonging to a family member or a side line of the Lords of Blumberg (mentioned in 1292) stood in its place , before the main features of today's complex were built at the beginning of the 16th century. Social facilities have been housed in parts of the building since the 19th century - currently an old people's home .
Building history
The systems were located on a limestone floe that the Biber river washed out of the surroundings as a circulating mountain with a height difference of 40 meters. A first castle complex was possibly built in the 11th century and was mentioned in documents in 1292 and 1362. The castle was expanded by the Lords of Klingenberg in the 14th century. In 1499 the castle was destroyed by the Confederates during the Swabian War. In 1511, the city of Blumenfeld went to the Teutonic Order - Kommende Mainau , which had the current complex built as the official seat for the Mainauer Obervogt . In 1515 the south wing was added, which was built on the foundation walls of the old palace . Another wing was added to the north wall between 1578 and 1582. After the castle was in poor condition in the 18th century, it was renovated from 1759 to 1762. The windows and stoves were replaced. Further renovations took place in 1815. Between 1774 and 1876 the castle stood empty and fell into disrepair. In 1975, the population saved the castle in 5,000 working hours. The one-story buildings from the 19th century were demolished in 1980 and the old people's home wing was rebuilt. The style of the Middle Ages was imitated and two new stair towers were added. The castle part was renovated between 1980 and 1998, with a focus on roofs and interiors.
use
From 1511 to the dissolution of the Mainauer Kommende in 1806, the castle was the seat of the Obervogt for the dominions of Blumenfeld and Tengen-Hinterburg. Thereafter, the seat of the district office of Blumenfeld was in the complex until 1857. In the years 1857–1864 there was a district court in the castle (moved to Engen in 1864 ) with apartments for the judges and judges there. The state of Baden sold the castle to the Archdiocese of Freiburg in 1864 . This maintained the poor child education institution for Saint Joseph in the castle for ten years . In 1876 a hospital association consisting of 13 municipalities bought a hospital and a poor hospital. It started with 13 beds and reached 173 beds in 1896. In Blumenfeld, care for the elderly was further expanded in the middle of the 20th century, with facilities outside the castle. The hospital was closed in 1989, and on March 31, 2017, the nursing home ceased operations after years of losses.
