Alt-Dettingen ruins

The ruins of Alt-Dettingen , now also known as Kargegg , are the ruins of a low castle on the south-western shore of Lake Überlingen near Dettingen , a district of Konstanz in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was built towards the end of the 12th century by the lords of Dettingen, who also included the minstrel Heinrich von Tettingen and the major of the Teutonic Order Werner von Tettingen , and abandoned it before 1350. Later the castle was owned by the Kommende Mainau of the Teutonic Order . From the former castle complex , which together with Neu-Dettingen represents a double castle, remains of the polyganic ring wall and the ruins of the residential tower have been preserved.

Old Dettingen or New Dettingen

Until now, the ruins on site were considered to be Alt-Dettingen. After a robbery excavation at the end of 2012, it turned out that this is Neu-Dettingen and that Alt-Dettingen can therefore be found elsewhere.
