The castle Mainau is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle on the Bodanrück barrier island Mainau in Lake Überlingen mentioned part of Lake Constance, in the district of Konstanz ( Baden-Wuerttemberg ).
A ministerial family named after the island of Mainau was first handed down in 1242. In 1271 the castle came to the Teutonic Order through the Reichau ministerial Arnold von Langenstein together with the possessions on the Bodanrück and, with the island of Mainau, became the administrative center of his possessions around Lake Constance.
