Windegg Castle , also Windeck Castle , is a castle on the northwestern tip of the island of Reichenau in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg .

The building in Niederzell, which was rebuilt in the late Renaissance style in 1667, replaced a castle built by the Reichenau ministerials in the 14th century . Presumably it was originally built as a monastic guest house within sight of the Romanesque column basilica St. Peter and Paul in Niederzell. It was extensively renovated as early as 1627 and converted into a three-storey building with stepped gables. The building complex consists of a three-storey, rectangular building with staggered gables in the style of the late renaissance . The dimensions are approx. 21.88 m long × 12.80 m wide. Extensive renovation measures were carried out in 1912, 1985 and 2010. The former castle chapel with groined vaults now serves as a dining room; the former library room on the first floor is now a lounge with a spacious tiled stove. On the 2nd floor there is a sweeping basket arch door in the west, the access to the former repertory, and in the northeast the gallant papal room. Pope Martin V is said to have lived here for a short time after his election at the Council of Constance in 1417 .

From 1630 until the secularization in 1803, the Bishops of Constance owned the property, then the Baden state. Karl Hahnemann from Constance bought it in 1817. In 1889 it came into the possession of the Benedictine Abbey of Beuron . In 1909 the castle was bought by the merchant Alfred Gut, only to be sold shortly afterwards to the Hahn Medical Council. In 1954 it came into the possession of Energie -versorgung Schwaben AG. Today's owner is EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg , which operates the property as a leisure home and conference hotel. Viewing is not possible.

The naming aims at the location on the north-western tip of the island, where the building with the stepped gables is exposed to the wind. The Windegg Castle is popularly known as 's Bürgle', also called 'Birgle' or 'Bürglin'.

It is a cultural monument within the meaning of Section 12 of the Monument Protection Act.
