Historical

  • Dürrloch : Ice Age animal bones, human skeletal remains and ceramic shards were found in this approximately 120 m long cave system. Based on excavation finds, a settlement of several thousand years has been proven: A pottery from the Münchshöfen group (4500 BC to 3800 BC), a shard of the Rössen culture (Middle Neolithic, 4500 to 4300 BC), shards of the Urnfield culture ( 1300 to 800 BC) and the Hallstatt period (800 to 450 BC), as well as medieval fragments were found. The cave is a roost for bats and was closed for this reason.
  • Celtic graves : There are around 130 Celtic burial mounds in the Schwaighauser Forest.
  • Armaments old Hainsacker : This is an almost four hectare rectangular wooded area near Hainsacker and the former detonation site of the US military. The US Army stored up to 60,000 tons of rifle ammunition and light artillery shells here that were captured in the fight against the Wehrmacht. The ammunition was buried in funnel-shaped holes and then blown up.
  • Schwaighauser Forst ammunition store : During the Nazi era, the German Wehrmacht set up a store for ammunition and black powder next to the route from Wolfsegg to Steinsberg . Russian forced laborers were also employed here until the end of the war . After the war, the ammunition was blown up, and years later the population dug up the metal shell casings and sold them as scrap metal.
