About this picture
Location of the Schweinheim district in the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn

Schweinheim is a district of the federal city of Bonn in the Bad Godesberg district . Located on the edge of the Kottenforst , it has around 3,000 inhabitants.

The name Schweinheim comes from the previous acorn fattening, where pigs were fed acorns in the woods.

The patron saint of the Schweinheim district is Saint Sebastianus . The plague chapel built in his honor also reminds of the last plague epidemic in the 17th century.

Infrastructure

On the Viktorshöhe , in the northern part of Schweinheim, after the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 the first official residence of President Theodor Heuss , is the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the buildings of the former Soviet embassy . The Evangelical Forest Hospital , the neurological rehabilitation center Godeshöhe and the children's home Godesheim are also located in Schweinheim . The former Rheinblick Castle, on the edge of the core of the old Schweinheim, currently still houses the training academy of the North Rhine-Westphalian financial administration (FortAFin). After the relocation of FortAFin on October 1, 2018, a branch of the Wuppertal State Finance School will be created at the previous location in Schweinheim.

With the Johannes Gutenberg School and the Siebengebirgsschule , two of the nine municipal special needs schools are located in the Schweinheim district.

The lively village life in Schweinheim includes its own carnival procession, which is lovingly and attractively designed every year. Schweinheim stands out in the carnival with a curious peculiarity. Like “Alaaf” or Düsseldorf “Helau” is called in Cologne and Bonn , a classic fool's call in Schweinheim is “Schweinheim Wutz Wutz”.

Personalities

A well-known inhabitant of Schweinheim is the cabaret artist and musician Konrad Beikircher , who comes from South Tyrol and is now naturalized as a Rhinelander . In addition, the former German ambassador and ZDF director Karl-Günther von Hase lives in Schweinheim. Erich Mende , former Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany under Ludwig Erhard , lived in Schweinheim for many years.
