Silla (German Silla Möldri ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääne-Nigula (until 2017: rural municipality Kullamaa ) in Lääne County in Estonia .

Population and location

The place has 26 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 32 kilometers southeast of the district capital Haapsalu on the highway between Tallinn and the Virtsu ferry port .

etymology

The place is south of Kullamaa . There the road crosses the Liivi River ( Liivi jõgi ). A bridge (Estonian sild , genitive silla ) and a mill (Müller Estonian mölder , Genetiv möldri ) are drawn on the maps of the German Baltic cartographer Ludwig August Mellin in 1798 .

Attractions

The old village tavern has been preserved.

As part of the Russification of Estonia, the Orthodox church of Kullamaa was built in Silla in the 1880s . Kullamaa Nikolai Church was closed in 1953 under the Soviet occupation of Estonia. Today only a few ruins remain.
