- July 30th : A rope team led by Charles Joseph Sainte-Claire Deville succeeds in the first ascent of the Combin de Grafeneire , the highest peak in the Grand Combin in the Valais Alps .
- 9 September : Melchior Anderegg and Leslie Stephen are the first to climb the 4,199 m high Rimpfischhorn in the Valais Alps .
- A group around Leopold Pfaundler von Hadermur was the first to climb the 2,492 m high Hohe Gleirsch in the Karwendel in Tyrol , as well as the southern and middle Jägerkarspitze and probably also the Gleirschtaler Brandjoch .
