The Stadio Silvio Piola is a football stadium in the northern Italian city ​​of Novara in the province of the same name , Piedmont region . The facility is mainly used by the local football club Novara Calcio .

history

In 1964, planning began for a new stadium in Novara; the construction work started in 1971. The home ground of Novara Calcio was inaugurated on January 18, 1976 and initially had a capacity of approx. 25,000 seats. After more than 44 years, it will replace the old stadium, Stadio Comunale di Via Alcarotti . Novara Calcio and Juventus Turin (2-1) met at the opening . Until well into the 1990s, the municipal stadium was named Viale Kennedy after the street on which it is located.

On October 23, 1997, the city of Novara decided that the facility should bear the name of the Italian soccer world champion from 1938 , Silvio Piola (1913-1996). Piola played at the end of his career from 1947 to 1954 for Novara Calcio. Novara Calcio made it to Serie B in the 2009/10 season . For this purpose, the stadium was adapted to the safety regulations of series B. So were z. B. renovated the spectator stands, installed turnstiles at the entrances and laid a new playing field made of artificial turf . It currently offers 17,875 seats to visitors.
