Thomas Hiram Andrews (born March 22, 1953 in Brockton , Massachusetts ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Thomas Andrews graduated from Oliver Ames High School in North Easton in 1971 . He then continued his education at Bowdoin College in Brunswick ( Maine ), where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1976 . He subsequently worked as a director at the Maine Association of Handicapped Persons .

Andrews was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1983 to 1985 , after which he was a member of the Maine Senate from 1985 to 1990 . Andrews was elected as a Democrat in the 102nd Congress in 1990, where he prevailed against David F. Emery , and represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1991 to January 3, 1995. In 1994 he was no longer a candidate election to the US house of representatives, but trying to succeed George J. Mitchell in the United States Senate to be elected; but he was clearly defeated by the Republican Olympia Snowe . She received 60.2 percent of the vote, Andrews only got 36.4 percent.
