The 20th stage of the Tour de France 2018 led over 31 kilometers as an individual time trial from Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle to Espelette in the French Basque Country on July 28, 2018 .

The time trial course was wavy and had numerous curves. The route began with a 5 percent gradient for the first 1.5 kilometers. Four kilometers from the finish, another one kilometer gradient followed with a 9 percent gradient.

The stage winner was Tom Dumoulin ( Team Sunweb ) with one second ahead of last year's overall winner Chris Froome and 14 seconds ahead of Geraint Thomas (both Team Sky ) who wore the yellow jersey . Thomas defended his overall lead from Dumoulin. Froome took third overall from Primož Roglič , who lost 1:12 minutes in eighth.

At the first two timing points after 13 and 22 kilometers, Thomas was in the lead, but lost this lead after being influenced by the sports management to take less risk in the corners.
