The BK Zenit St Petersburg is a Russian professional basketball club from Saint Petersburg . The club currently plays in the VTB United League .

history

The club was founded in 2003 under the name "Dynamo" Moscow Region and played in the Russian Super League. In the summer of 2007 "Dynamo", which resided in Lyubertsy , was dissolved and "Triumph" took its place. After its re-establishment, the club took part in various competitions. The best result in the national championship was third place in the 2011/12 regular season. Internationally, Triumph reached the semi-finals of the EuroChallenge twice (2009 and 2012) . Also in 2012, the team achieved second place in the regular season of the Baltic Basketball League . The greatest success of the club was the entry into the final of the Eurochallenge 2014, which was lost against Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 65:79.
In the summer of 2014, the government of the Moscow region decided to only finance BK Chimki as a basketball club and to stop funding the region's second club, Triumph. At the same time Spartak's first team was disbanded in Saint Petersburg . So it was decided to move Triumph, including players and coaching staff, to St. Petersburg and let them play under the traditional name “Zenit”.
