U 121 was a German submarine from Type II B , which in World War II by the German navy was used.

history

The order for the boat was awarded to Flender-Werke , Lübeck , on August 28, 1937 . The keel was laid on March 31, 1938, the launch on April 20, 1940, the commissioning under Oberleutnant zur See Karl-Ernst Schroeter on May 28, 1940.

After its commissioning, the boat belonged as a school boat to the U-Boat School Flotilla in Kiel until March 25, 1942 , which was renamed the 21st U-Flotilla on July 1, 1940 and relocated to Pillau . May 1942 as a school boat for the 24th U-Flotilla in Memel . From May 16, 1942 to March 16, 1945 the boat was again used as a school boat in the 21st U-Flotilla in Pillau and Memel. From March 17, 1945 to May 5, 1945 it was then used as a school boat with the 31st U-Flotilla in Hamburg.

U 121 was purely a school and training boat and did not run out of business.

Whereabouts

The boat was self- sunk by its crew on May 5, 1945 in Wesermünde according to the rainbow order that had existed for a long time, but was canceled by Grand Admiral Dönitz on the evening of May 4, 1945 . The wreck was lifted in 1949 and scrapped in November 1950.
