And goodbye! is a German television series that was produced in 1994 by Bavaria Film for RTL . The series was broadcast for the first time between May 8 and August 7, 1995.

The scripts were written by Wolfgang Büld (also director) and Stefan Cantz . The plot revolves around a chaotic clique from the Ruhr area . The series has only one season with 13 episodes, further experiences of the clique were shown in three feature films from 1996 to 1998.

action

Günther (called "Günni"), Petra, Jürgen, Eddie, René (called "Zombie"), Raoul and Silke are a clique in Essen. Their favorite meeting point is the restaurant "Industrie" run by Raoul's father. The focus of the stories is Hugo Günzler's gas station, where Günni and Jürgen often tinker with their cars and which Günni later takes over. The actions of the individual episodes revolve around Günni's love for Petra and his Ford Mustang, which occasionally contradict each other, Petra's love for Günni and her wish that he should finally grow up, Jürgen's vacillations in his professional goals and love relationships, René's weakness for Heavy metal and corpses, Eddie's inner tension between the gang and her criminal brother, Raoul's change plans for his father's restaurant and Silke's search for a suitable man and a film career.

main characters

Günther "Günni" Dobrinski

Günni initially works in a supermarket, but loses his job and cannot find a new one. When Hugo Günzler suffers a heart attack, Günni takes over and renovates the gas station at his own expense. For this he is appointed as a partner by Hugo Günzler after his return from the hospital. Günni is a totally casual guy who goes along with everything. If one of his friends needs him, he is there with all his dedication. Most of his life revolves around his Ford Mustang , although he sometimes neglects his girlfriend Petra.

Petra Rentrop

Petra is Günni's girlfriend. At first she worked in the same supermarket as Günni, but soon got a job as a saleswoman in a bookstore. In contrast to Günni, Petra already has clear ideas about her future. Because of this, both often get into quarrels. Petra lives in an apartment with her best friend Silke.

Jürgen Jaskulke

Jürgen has completed an apprenticeship as a printer, is currently doing his community service and driving a souped-up VW Beetle . He and Günni often work on their cars together. Jürgen comes from a simple family and wants to go back to his learned profession as a printer after his community service, but is persuaded by his girlfriend Saskia to work in her father's construction company.

Saskia Fernau

Saskia comes from a wealthy entrepreneurial family and is friends with Jürgen. She tries to help him achieve social advancement, but does not understand that other things are important to him than to her.

René "Zombie" Bishop

“Zombie” is employed by a funeral home that his father runs as the driver of the hearse. In addition to his sporty pink Opel Kadett, he also has a weakness for the supernatural and metal music.

Raoul Gölsch

Raoul's family comes from the east of Germany. His father runs the restaurant "Industrie", which is a popular meeting place for the clique.

Eddie Grollmann

The chaotic Eddie is an orphan. She runs away from her brother Kalli (who, together with Wampe, also steals Günni's Mustang) and finds a place in the clique. After consultation with Hugo, who owns the gas station, she opens the closed stall again as a snack.

Silke Klever

Silke, Petra's best friend, is single and constantly looking for her dream man and her acting career.

Supporting characters

Hertha and Willi Dobrinski
are Günnis parents. Hertha is always concerned about Günni, while Willi prefers to devote himself to his rabbit breeding and Rudi the rabbit.
Mr. Gölsch
is Raoul's father and owner of the restaurant "Industrie". He always speaks Saxon and is always against new trends.
Calli and Wampe
are two criminals who keep breaking out of prison and robbing a bank. Kalli is Eddie's brother and always wants money from her when he's at large.
Hugo Günzler
is the owner of the gas station. He has his own business ethic and ignores any letter from the agency. He doesn't want anyone else to "ruin" his business, but lets Eddie take over the chip shop. When he suffers a heart attack, Günni takes care of the business. When he returned from the cure that followed after his hospital stay, he was married and left the gas station to Günni.
The police officers Molsch and Kaportke
are two policemen who often get in the way of Günni and the others.
Mrs. Ronjack
is an old woman with whom Jürgen drives out as a community service provider. She is always in a good mood and knows how to convince Jürgen to serve her a chop instead of soup.
Sascha Fernau
Sascha is the brother of Saskia. He is extremely arrogant and looks down on the clique. He is at war with "Günni" because he has stretched Petra from him.
Constantine
is Sascha's best friend and participates in almost every idea Sascha has. Usually he can be found in the tennis club.

consequences

1. The Mustang
Günni and Petra work in the supermarket run by supermarket director Koch ( Christian Tasche ). When Günni and Jürgen were working on Jürgen's Beetle at Hugo's gas station one evening, Sascha noticed that Günni had left the key in his Ford Mustang. He drives the car away to scare Günni, but then the car is really stolen and taken to Kalli and Wampe, who want to take it apart and sell it piece by piece. At a flea market, Günni sees Kalli's sister Eddie selling his car radio and confronts her. Eddie runs away and Günni pursues her, but saves her life when her foot gets caught in a railway switch and a train approaches. In return, Eddie helps him get the car back. She leaves her brother and joins the gang.
2. Trouble with Eddie
Kalli tries to get his sister Eddie back, but she hides from him. One night she stayed with Günni. When Petra finds out about this, she becomes jealous, and Eddie does everything to strengthen Petra's suspicion that Günni is cheating on her. Petra takes revenge by not being driven home by Günni, but by Mr. Kubisch ( Simon Licht ), a book salesman she met in the supermarket. Petra's roommate, Silke, tells Günni that Petra went to dinner with the book salesman and didn't come back all night, but that's not true. When Günni is violent in the supermarket against the book salesman, he is fired. Eddie finally explains to Petra that nothing has happened between her and Günni, and they all make up in Raoul's father's restaurant.
3. Rudi Rammler
Günni is supposed to bring his father's award-winning rabbit Rudi to cover. However, on the way the hare disappears. While searching, Günni and Jürgen get into the hands of Kalli and Wampe, who hid there after a bank robbery and took Silke hostage in a garden colony. Kalli and Wampe force Jürgen to drive them away with his beetle, while Günni and Silke stay tied up in a gazebo. If there is a scramble in the car, an irritant gas gun goes off and everyone has to get out. Molsch and Kaportke just happened to come by and arrest Kalli and Wampe. After Günni and Silke have been freed, they all go to the gas station, where Eddie is painting the snack bar that has been closed for years and that she wants to put back into operation. There you will also find Rudi, who has covered himself with paint.
4. Gas station in danger
Petra got a new job in a bookstore, Günni is still unemployed. When Hugo has to go to the hospital with a heart attack, Günni takes care of the gas station. It is, however, in a desperate state, and a representative from the labor inspectorate draws up a long list of defects that need to be rectified during a visit, which would cost a lot of money. Mr. Pape ( Heinrich Schafmeister ), the branch manager of the Sparkasse, does not want to give any more credit to the already highly indebted gas station. Günni therefore even wants to sell his Ford Mustang in order to get the necessary money. When Mr. Pape inadvertently hands in a private sex video in the video store where Silke works, Silke and Petra are still able to "convince" him to grant the loan.
5. The rock'n roll virus
Zombie starts a rock band after attending a rock concert. Even Silke is infected and joins as a singer, and Raoul takes over management. The band rehearses in the garage of the gas station and drives away the customers with their loud music. When Sascha hired a band for the summer party in the tennis club, Günni and Jürgen came up with a plan to embarrass Sascha and dissuade Zombie from his rock plans. They drink the musicians Sascha ordered under the table, and Raoul offers Sascha a performance by Zombies Band instead. Instead of the expected failure, however, the performance is a complete success, as the guests in the tennis club consider the band to be a successful rock parody and laugh and applaud. But that's exactly what heals Zombie from his plans as a rock star.
6. Nothing like it used to be
Petra takes driving lessons, but doesn't tell Günni anything about it, but wants to surprise him with the finished driver's license. When Günni sees her in the car with the driving instructor Roland ( Uwe Fellensiek ) and confronts her, she makes him fidget and think she has a new boyfriend. Hugo has now been released from the hospital. When he sees how the gas station has been renovated, he is annoyed about the money thrown away and insinuates that Günni wants to enrich himself at his own expense. When Petra takes the driving test, Günni sees her again and follows her. In doing so he almost collides with Molsch and Kaportke. Petra gets her driver's license, but Günni is rid of his for now. Hugo has now learned from Eddie that Günni carried out the entire renovation at his own expense, and makes Günni the petrol station's partner.
7. A messy weekend
The gang goes to a lake to camp. Jürgen apologizes with a business trip, but then drives with Saskia to her aunt's house, which happens to be on the same lake. Since the farm, where the clique usually tents, has now been sold, they drive to the campsite at the other end of the lake near Saskia's aunt's house. Jürgen, who doesn't know anything about it, fetches a snack at the campsite, where he is discovered by Günni and Eddie. He pretends that he has a few hours off from his business trip and that he has come to spend it with his friends. When he says goodbye, Eddie follows him and sees that he is going to Saskia. In the evening a violent storm breaks out. Eddie leads the soaked clique to the house, where they surprise Jürgen and Saskia and stay there for the night.
8. Linked
Zombie buys a car, but is ripped off by the used goods dealer Grosser ( Ludger Burmann ) and his assistant Walter ( Willi Thomczyk ). The brakes fail on his first trip and Zombie ends up in the hospital with a broken leg. The clique wants to avenge zombie and cheat the dealer himself. Günni and Petra play an unsuspecting couple who want to buy a used car cheaply. At night Eddie sneaks into the shop and changes the chassis number in the sales contract, which the dealer himself had already done with Zombie and now with Günni and Petra. When the dealer gives Günni and Petra a scrap car instead of the one they have chosen, they show him that the chassis number is incorrect. The car dealer is mad, but cannot prevent Günni and Petra from taking a brand new cadet with them for Zombie.
9. Modern methods
Petra helps Günni convince Hugo to take a cure offered by the health insurance company. After completing his community service, Jürgen took a job in Saskia's father's construction company. Günni has no understanding for this and a dispute ensues. Petra, on the other hand, understands Jürgen and asks him to find a flat for her and Günni. Raoul's father goes to Saxony, and in his absence Raoul tries out new business ideas for the restaurant. He sets up a delivery service for sushi. When he carelessly promises 50 marks on the radio as an introductory advertisement for each delayed delivery, Sascha orders 50 pieces to the tennis club. Günni drives out the delivery and is followed by Molsch and Kaportke for exceeding the speed limit. Much to Sasha's annoyance, Günni manages to deliver on time. While viewing the apartment, Petra learns that the previous tenants were pissed off by the construction company. When she reproaches Jürgen, who knew nothing about it, he realizes that he has been betrayed and quits his job.
10. Sharp photos
Eddie takes photos of Günni and his Mustang for a car magazine. Silke asks Eddie to take nudes of her for a sex magazine in order to be discovered as a movie star. However, when she is supposed to undress for the photos, she no longer dares. To give her courage, Petra undresses and Eddie takes photos of both of them. Jürgen also separates from Saskia after his termination and becomes more and more friends with Eddie. Petra learns that her photos were accidentally sent to the publisher and that she was even selected for the cover photo, and she is totally desperate. Together with Silke and Zombie, she initially succeeds in preventing Günni from seeing such a magazine when buying his car magazine. Günni is angry that his photos are not featured in the car magazine. Finally he gets his hands on a sex notebook and drives to Petra in anger. When he sees how desperate Petra herself is and learns of the mix-up, he reconciles with her again. Meanwhile, Silke has been hired by the film producer Schlecker ( Ralph Herforth ), who actually wanted to see Petra because of the cover picture, for a love story.
11. Zombies
After Silke went to Munich to shoot the film, Günni moved in with Petra. Eddie's brother Kalle escaped from the prison hospital in a nightgown. When an attempt is made to steal a motorcycle in a paint shop, the painter sprays it with fluorescent green paint. Zombie who sees him in the cemetery at night thinks it's a real zombie and persuades Eddie to come with him to take his picture. Kalle kidnaps Eddie and lets her hide him. Eddie gives Kalle an old tracksuit from Jürgen, which still contains the keys to Saskia's parents' house. Kalle breaks in there and takes all the silver with him. When he also steals Jürgen's beetle, Eddie tries to stop him and gets in with him. Günni happened to see the fleeing car and started chasing it. Eddie succeeds in pulling the handbrake and Günni knocks out Kalle. At the police station they meet Saskia, who is just reporting the break-in, and Jürgen, who wants to start a search for his stolen car.
12. The pen pal
When Zombies' Finnish pen pal Miksu, who is also a metal fan, comes to visit, Zombie is surprised to find that he is a girl ( Line Kruse ). When Günni tries to fry the two of them a currywurst, the whole snack bar burns down. Hugo comes back from his cure. He has now married and is transferring the Günni gas station. There is a crisis between Petra and Günni, and when Silke returns disappointed because her film project has turned out to be a porn film, Günni moves back to his parents. Petra drives with Günnis Mustang into the car of the dentist Gerd Weisgerber ( Christoph M. Ohrt ). Günni is totally angry, but the dentist consoles Petra and waives any compensation. He's on standby that evening and invites Petra to dinner. Zombie takes Miksu to an air guitar competition and wins first prize. Since the champagne cork knocked out a tooth, both go to the dentist, where they see Petra. Miksu, unsuspectingly, shares this with the clique, whereupon Günni, furious, drives to the dentist to confront him. However, Günni mistook his assistant for a patient and took a dental impression. With the impression pliers in his mouth, Günni's outburst becomes a farce.
13. The rally
The clique takes part in a rally organized by the Riesberg car dealer. However, his daughter Cornelia ( Cecilia Kunz ) copied a fly that was sitting on the photocopier glass into the documents, so that nobody can find the right way. Günni and Zombie land in a forest hut and are surprised by the forester, who is about to call the police. Jürgen and Eddie meet a boy on the way who turns out to be Gerd Weisgerber's son. He wants to reconcile his separated parents and they bring him to his father. Sascha and Konstantin end up in a garbage dump. When Sascha wants to fetch an excavator from a construction site to pull his car out of there, he loses control and knocks Günni's gas station over. But since he is well insured, Günni gets enough money to finally start his dream trip to America with Jürgen. He writes a farewell letter to Petra. When Petra comes to the airport to tell Günni that she still loves him in spite of everything, Jürgen renounces the flight and lets Petra fly to America with Günni.

Feature films

Based on the television series, three feature films were made in the following years. Their plot, however, has little relation to the series, and only a part of the main cast is represented in each film. Most of the films are no longer set in Essen, but on Mallorca and the USA.

And goodbye! On Mallorca (1996)

Leading actors: Gesine Cukrowski (in a double role as Petra Rentrop and Bonny Bender), Benno Fürmann, Chrissy Schulz, Christian Kahrmann, Paul Herwig (as Eberhard), Tom Mikulla

Supporting actors: Jürg Löw (as Bernd Bender), Uli Krohm (as Werner), Rüdiger Wandel (as Ossie), Lutz Michael (as Heinz), Christof Wackernagel

Script: Stefan Cantz

Director: Karsten Wichniarz

Synopsis: Günni, Petra, Jürgen, Silke and Raoul want to spend their vacation together on Mallorca. Everything goes wrong at first: Your luggage has disappeared at the airport, the hotel has not reserved any rooms and then they are also robbed. Together with the somewhat helpless Eberhard, whom they meet on site and who has suffered the same fate, they try to get some money back. In doing so, they are still the victims of a mix-up: Bonny Bender, the daughter of pop singer Bernd Bender, looks very similar to Petra. When her father leaves the island for a gig, Bonny manages to escape her guard Werner. She is kidnapped by Ossi and Heinz, the crew of Bender's yacht. While looking for Bonny, Werner meets Petra. He doesn't believe her that she isn't Bonny and forces her to follow him home. When the kidnappers call Werner to extort a ransom, they learn that Bonny is home. They therefore believe they have kidnapped the wrong one and leave Bonny behind in a lonely, dilapidated farm. Petra, who escaped Werner, gets in Ossi and Heinz's way and is kidnapped by them. In their search for Petra, Günni and Eberhard find Bonny and free her. Together they manage to free Petra and hand Ossi and Heinz over to the police. As a reward, Bernd Bender takes the clique as a crew on a sailing tour on his yacht so that they can come on vacation after all.

And goodbye! In America (1996)

Leading actors: Benno Fürmann, Chrissy Schulz, Andreas Arnstedt, Tom Mikulla, Gesine Cukrowski,

Supporting actors: Jens Peter Nünemann (as Andy Bischof), Dan Frank (as Bill), Norbert Weisser (as Wagner)

Script: Wolfgang Büld , Paulette Panter

Director: Michael Keusch

Synopsis: Günni wrecked his car in a race and Raoul fell into the hands of loan shark Wagner to finance the conversion of an old factory hall into a restaurant. In order to get money, they decide that Günni and Zombie should fly to America with Raoul's remaining money and buy used caravans and send them to Germany, which Raoul then wants to sell at a high profit. In America, however, Günni sees a Thunderbird that costs just as much as Raoul gave them. During a test drive, he and Zombie are robbed by the fraudulent car dealer Bill. Together with Silke, who worked as an au pair for a rich American woman, they try to get Raoul's money back. They end up in prison for drinking and driving. With the help of a rock band you met there, you manage to kidnap the Thunderbird. They take them to Las Vegas first, where they win a lot of money by gambling. When they are visiting Zombie's aunt in Los Angeles, they are found by Bill, who steals the Thunderbird back. Together with zombies cousin Andy, they chase Bill in Andy's car, and they manage to catch Bill and get Raoul's money back. Raoul was meanwhile repeatedly pressured by Wagner to repay the installments on time. Since the renovation could not start until the day before the planned opening, Raoul decided against the renovation at Petra's suggestion and consciously used the ambience of the factory hall as a stylistic device for his restaurant. With this and an imaginative menu he has great success and can soon repay his loan. Since there is no longer any rush to send the purchased caravan to Germany, Günni, Zombie and Andy set off on a tour of the USA while Silke flies back to Germany.

And goodbye! Ballermann Olé (1998)

Leading actors: Andreas Arnstedt, Christian Kahrmann, Tom Mikulla, Chrissy Schulz

Supporting actors: Ulrike Bliefert (as Ulla Herbst), Walter Gontermann (as Carlos), Roland Marx (as Jan), Thorsten Nindel (as Rüdiger Poppels), Claude-Oliver Rudolph (as Achmed), Ania Rudy (as Theresa), Alexander Schubert (as José), Sonja Zimmer alias Rebecca Immanuel (as Maria)

Screenplay: David Simmons

Director: Oren Schmuckler

Synopsis: Raoul has won a trip to Mallorca and takes Silke with him. At the same time, Zombie and Jürgen have to pick up a coffin with a deceased person there and bring it to Germany. Maria, the funeral director's granddaughter, mixed up the coffins. Zombie and Jürgen receive a coffin with an old man with drugs hidden in his clothes. The coffin with the German has now landed with drug lord Carlos, who sends his henchmen Achmed and José to look for the right coffin. Raoul has now got to know Rüdiger Poppels, who came to Mallorca with his colleague Ulla Herbst (both also known from the TV series Das Amt ) because he inherited a restaurant there from his uncle. Raoul is hired by the business-unfit Rüdiger as managing director for the restaurant. Meanwhile, Silke can hardly help the pushy tour guide and entertainer Jan, who she is responsible for all kinds of program items such as B. wants canoeing and a life-saving course as a partner. In order to have a deposit for the right coffin, Zombie and Jürgen do not bring the coffin back to the funeral home, but instead put it in Raoul's hotel room and hide the corpse under the covers. However, they are shadowed by Achmed and José, who soon steal the coffin. Zombie and Silke then bring the body out of the hotel. When Achmed and José search the hotel room again to find the body, Raoul turns up with his new friend Theresa, who is an ex-girlfriend of Achmed. Achmed locks them both in a broken hotel elevator. Rüdiger and Ulla therefore wait in vain for the delicacies that Raoul had procured and, as a replacement, put an old distillation plant belonging to Rüdiger's uncle back into operation. You make a huge profit with the homemade schnapps. In the meantime, Zombie, Jürgen and Silke have found out from Maria the address to which the other coffin has gone. While Zombie and Jürgen search a warehouse there and actually find the coffin with the German, Silke and Maria are kidnapped by Achmed and José. Zombie and Jürgen are supposed to deliver the old man's body in exchange. Instead, however, Jan hides in the coffin to help Silke, and together they manage to overcome Achmed and José and free Silke and Maria.

Soundtrack

The series partly contains songs that were current during the production, e.g. B. I think you shit from Tic Tac Toe , Who's The King from Dog Eat Dog , Thank's For Nothing from Overkill or Golden Boy from The Stranglers , but also many "classics" from the 1960s to 1980s. Some of the songs were released on a soundtrack CD.

The original intro Hallo und Tschüss , from which the name of the series is derived, comes from the German band Hexenhaus. When the series was repeated in 2003, the intro was revised and the song Heartbeat by Daniel Küblböck was mixed in. In addition to the new intro, other music was mixed in as well. You can now hear, among others, Men Are Pigs by Die Ärzte , We can leave the world by Sasha and Sexbomb by Tom Jones and Mousse T. Furthermore, some of the film scores have been deleted without replacement because they quoted the old theme song. The original music was used again in the DVD releases.
