The Mainfranken transport company association (VVM) is a tariff and transport association that was founded on August 1st, 2004. The Mainfranken transport association extends over the planning region of Würzburg (No. 2), with the independent city of Würzburg , the district of Würzburg , the district of Kitzingen and the district of Main-Spessart . It ensures uniform tariffs and coordinated timetables among the various local public transport providers.
System and tariffs
On August 1, 2004, the VVM replaced the Würzburger Tarifverbund (WTV), which had been active until then , and at the same time introduced a new network system. Instead of being divided into tariff zones that were ring-shaped towards Würzburg, the area was divided into honeycombs. The center of the system is the large honeycomb 100, which encompasses the urban area of Würzburg and the municipalities of Gerbrunn and Höchberg near the city . The VVM hoped that the introduction of the long-planned new system would be more fair and that the fare calculation would be simplified.
The VVM also introduced a number of new ticket offers, such as the 6-ticket card and the short-haul ticket Eins + 4, which are more attractive and cheaper for commuters and short-haul passengers than the conventional and flexibly usable strip ticket. For the first time, the Bayern ticket from Deutsche Bahn was also valid.
The VVM currently offers single, multiple and day tickets (solo / family), group tickets as well as monthly and annual tickets. Tickets are available from the machines at many stops and from the bus driver. The group ticket is only available in advance (exception: Main-Spessart. Here the group ticket is also available on the bus). Reservation and advance notice are necessary. Students can travel for free in the entire VVM network with the semester ticket .
On February 1, 2009, the network area was expanded to include the neighboring Kitzinger local transport community . Before that, there had been a cooperation with the district of Kitzingen since autumn 2006 , through which the validity of tickets of the Kitzingen local transport association was extended to urban traffic in Würzburg.
Since August 2008, the VVM has required that the driver only board its buses all day and that the ticket must be presented.
Since August 1, 2013, local transport in the Main-Spessart district has also been part of VVM.
Border areas
There are also outside of the composite space adjacent areas in peripheral parts of the district of Bad Kissingen , from the district of Schweinfurt and the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim , where also the VVM fare is valid.
As early as April 2003, the neighboring Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg decided to connect to the Rhein-Neckar transport association (VRN) around the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg , which extends across the borders to the Palatinate in the west . The stations on the Würzburg-Stuttgart railway line are located on the Bavarian side in both the VVM and VRN tariff zones. Therefore, VRN tickets can be bought from Würzburg Hbf.
Bus, train and tram
- Railway traffic: Deutsche Bahn operates all regional traffic lines from Würzburg. The VVM tariffs apply up to the train stations Kirchheim ( KBS 780 ), Wiesthal ( KBS 800 ), Iphofen ( KBS 805 ), Bergtheim ( KBS 810 ) and Marktbreit ( KBS 920 ).
- Tram traffic: In the urban area of Würzburg, the Würzburg supply and transport company operates five tram lines on a network of almost 20 kilometers.
- Omnibus traffic: The remaining areas of the network area are served by city and regional bus routes of the Omnibus operating company NVG and the DB bus companies DB Frankenbus , DB Busverkehr Bayern and DB Regiobus Stuttgart .

Desired expansion of the connection area
The expansion to more than double the area of the network by including the planning region Main-Rhön (No. 3), with the independent city of Schweinfurt , the district of Schweinfurt , the district of Bad Kissingen , the district of Rhön-Grabfeld and the district of Haßberge has been for many Years in conversation.
