Villafranca Padovana is a north-east Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,476 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Padua in Veneto . The municipality is located about 11 kilometers northwest of the city center of Padua west of the Brenta .

history

Villafranca Padovana was first mentioned in a document in 1190. On the border between the area of ​​influence of Padua and Venice, the village was able to develop free of external influences for a while. From 1556 to 1567 Andrea Palladio built the Barchessa di Villa Thiene in the district of Cicogna .

On the former railway line from Padua via Piazzola sul Brenta to Carmignano there was a train station until 1958. The line was then dismantled so that the next siding is in Padua.
