San Martino di Lupari is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 13,152 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Padua in Veneto . The municipality borders the provinces of Treviso and Vicenza . It is located about 26 kilometers north of Padua and about the same distance northeast of Vicenza . Treviso is about 30 kilometers east of San Martino di Lupari. From the center of Venice , the municipality is about 43 kilometers to the north-west.

history

On their way of retreat at the end of the Second World War, parts of the division committed the massacre of San Martino di Lupari on April 29, 1945 and took hostages, tortured and murdered them and committed looting and destruction, just before they were in northern Italy in front of the British 8th Army capitulated. Around 125 innocent people were murdered in San Martino di Lupari.
