Wolfgang Denk (medical doctor)

Wolfgang Denk (born March 21, 1882 in Linz , † February 4, 1970 in Vienna ) was an Austrian surgeon .

Life

Wolfgang Denk studied medicine at the University of Vienna . In 1916 he received his habilitation . From 1924 to 1928 he was primary professor at the Rudolf Foundation . He was then appointed full professor at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . In 1931, Denk took over the management of the Second Surgical University Clinic in Vienna.

In the authoritarian corporate state , Denk was a representative of science in the Viennese citizenship from 1934 to 1938 .

In 1948/49 he became rector . In addition, he was President of the Society of Doctors in Vienna and Chairman of the Supreme Medical Council and of the Austrian Society for Research into and Fight against Cancer, the forerunner organization of the Austrian Cancer Aid . Denk authored numerous treatises on internal organ surgery.

In 1957 he was defeated as a joint candidate by the ÖVP and FPÖ in the federal presidential election against Adolf Schärf .
