The 1971/72 season of the Vysschaya League was the 26th season of the highest Soviet ice hockey division . The Soviet championship title was secured for the 17th time by CSKA Moscow , while Lokomotiv Moscow was relegated to the second division .

The team with the highest points became champions, while the bottom of the table was relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
