Ozamis (also commonly spelled Ozamiz) is a 2nd class city in the province of Misamis Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 110,420 people in 22,170 households.

Name

The city of Ozamiz is named after José F. Ozámiz who served as governor, congressional representative, and later, the first (and to date, the only) senator from the province. Prior to this, the city was known as Misamis.

TRANSPORTATION :
AIR - Air Philippines have direct flights from Ozamiz to Manila v.v. 4 x a week ( every Monday, Wednesday, friday and sunday ) The airport is located at Labo.
SEA - Ozamiz sea port is one of the best and busiest in this part of Mindanao. There are several shipping lines serving manila and Cebu routes namely : Superferry, Trans Asia shipping lines, Gothong lines, Sulpicio lines and Negros Navigation. Daima lines serve the Ozamiz - Mukas, Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte routes using their Roll on, Roll off (RORO) ferries that transport passengers, cars/trucks and goods across Panguil bay for 20 minutes.
LAND - Rural bus transit dominates the land trasport to Iligan and Cagayan de Oro passing across the Panguil Bay and to Pagadian, Dipolog and Dapitan cities. Mode of Transport within ozamiz city is by Motorcabs and pedicabs.


ATTRACTIONS

  • Cotta Fort and shrine - the cotta was renovated and restored to its original design in 2006.
  • Bukagan Hill - it has a nice panoramic view of the entire city, Panguil bay and Lanao del Norte and Zamboanga del sur. Moreover, the huge ancient bells can be seen atop Bukagan hill. Bukagan hill will be developed into a tourist attraction due to its historical value and panoramic view of the city.
  • Naomi's Botanical Garden and Inn - One can see numerous exotic plants inside. It has fully aircontitioned rooms for rent,function rooms for special occasions, sports facilities, pottery and a bakery inside the compound.
  • Mt. Malindang Golf and country Club - located in Bagakay
  • Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park - located in Tigdok, Sinacaban, One can visit its mini zoo and hatchery. It has conference rooms,a restaurant, fully aircontitioned rooms for rent. One can take a pump boat to reach the dolphin and sea turtles island. One can also do scuba diving here.

  • Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (MHARS-RTTH) - located at National highway in Maningcol. It's a tertiary, Government owned under the Dept. of Health. It has a blood bank that supplies blood needs of patients coming from Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Misamis Occidnetal.
  • Misamis University Medical center (MUMC) - a tertiary privately owned hospital in Bagakay .
  • Medina General Hospital- located at carmen Annex, it is a tertiary private hospital.
