As AMD Sempron , AMD has been selling processors based on the K8 architecture since 2004 , initially without the AMD64 expansion, however , for the low-price segment. In the same period, however, the K7 architecture was also used to market other Sempron processors . From the second half of 2005, AMD also launched Sempron processors with support for AMD64. These are often referred to in the trade as Sempron 64 , but this is not an official name. This apparently happened in response to inexpensive Celeron Ds with 64-bit extensions from Intel . At the end of 2005, the production of AMD Semprons without an AMD64 extension was discontinued.

Technical

The AMD Sempron has a smaller L2 cache and lower clock frequencies than comparable AMD Athlon 64 processors. In addition, the first models did not support AMD64 technology.
