Aga Khan Award for Architecture
The Aga Khan Award for Architecture (in German: “Aga Khan Award for Architecture”) is an architecture award donated by Karim Aga Khan IV. For architecture and restoration projects with a special effect for the common good, with a focus on “Societies in which Muslims have a significant presence ”. The prize is awarded by the Aga Khan Development Network and is considered the largest of its kind in the world.
The Aga Khan Award is presented to several projects and their architects in three-year cycles. Even if most of the projects come from the Muslim world, the award winners responsible for these also come from non-Muslim countries. The jury and steering committee for each cycle are made up of an international pool of architects, intellectuals , scientists , artists and experts from development cooperation.
Turgut Cansever is the only architect to have received three awards.
