Location of Ahütte in Rhineland-Palatinate

Ahütte with the hamlets or individual layers Hammermühle and Paulushof is a district of the local community Üxheim in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate with around 170 inhabitants.

location

The village is located in the Kalkeifel , a smaller region in the northwest of the Vulkaneifel on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia . Üxheim is about one kilometer west-northwest, Daun 16 km south and the city of Trier a good 63 km south (all distances as the crow flies ).

Ahütte is traversed from the west by the Rohrsbach, which flows into the Ahbach on the southeastern edge of the village , a right tributary of the Ahr , on the right bank of which there are only a few houses of the village, a slightly larger number on the left, northwestern slope of the Ahbach. The dominant center of the village in its valley floodplain lies at an altitude of approximately 360  m above sea level. NHN , the edge heights immediately in the southeast and northwest rise to about 430  m above sea level. NHN . To the south of the village there is a quarry on the left Ahbachtal slope, a little further away there is also one on the right.

history

Settlement of the area has been proven since the time of the Celts and later by the Romans on the basis of various finds and excavations. The remains of a Roman villa were found north of the village during the construction of the railway in 1911 . The founding, or at least the name of Ahütte, apparently goes back to an ironworks that has been proven to have existed since the 18th century and was owned by the Counts of Aremberg , but may be of older origin. In 1885, the municipality of Üxheim-Ahütte ( mayor of Kerpen in the Daun district ) is named in an official directory, consisting of the municipality units Ahütte with 145, Üxheim with 201 inhabitants and the residential areas Beuerhof with four and Hammermühle with five inhabitants.

On January 1, 1968, the local communities of Üxheim-Ahütte (with 508 inhabitants at the time), Leudersdorf and Niederehe, which were independent until then, merged to form the newly formed community of Üxheim. On February 1, 1968 Heyroth joined them.

traffic

  • Street
The next autobahn is the A 1 with junctions 114 “ Blankenheim ” in the north and 118 “ Gerolstein ” in the south. After the completion of the gap in the A1 in the Eifel, the motorway will run just a few kilometers east of the town and connect it via the future junctions “ Adenau ” and “ Kelberg ”. The federal road 421 runs a few kilometers southwest and the B 410 south. There are regular bus connections to the surrounding towns.
  • rail
In Ahütte there was a train station on the Dümpelfeld – Lissendorf railway line, which was released for operation on July 1, 1912 and has been closed since the 1970s ("Middle Ahr Valley Railway") .
On the Eifelbahn there are regional train stations in Lissendorf and Oberbettingen - Hillesheim ; The nearest regional express train stations are in Jünkerath and Gerolstein, and Bonn main train station , Koblenz main train station and Trier main train station are long-distance train stations with IC / ICE connections.
  • Air traffic
The nearest airfields are the airfield Dahlem Binz and the airport Bitburg ; international airports are Cologne / Bonn Airport and Luxembourg Airport .

Economy and tourism

The economy of the district is dominated by the mining of limestone and its further processing. The townscape is shaped by the quarrying area and the silhouette of the processing plants, especially the shaft kiln for the production of quick lime . The company, which produces lime in different variations, states that it was founded in 1835 and, according to its own statements, employs around 35 people today. In the immediate vicinity is a cement plant founded in 1923 with around 65 employees, which mainly produces Portland cement . Both companies have been under the same management since 1983.

In addition, there is a manageable number of other companies, mainly in the service sector .

The Agriculture and Forestry , which has lost in the last 150 years already important, will take place today predominantly in the sideline instead.

Not least because of the above-mentioned industrial plants with their emissions (which have decreased in recent years), there is practically hardly any tourist infrastructure in the local area itself. There are holiday apartments a few kilometers away from the limestone quarries in Hammermühle in the Ahbachtal . Marked hiking trails through the village include the Geo-Rundweg Hillesheim and the Eifelkrimi hiking trail . Furthermore, the Kalkeifel cycle path runs as a section of a national long - distance cycle path network using sections of the former railway line through Ahütte.
