Aichwald is a protected landscape area (protected area number 1.16.007) in the Esslingen district .
Location and description
The landscape protection area is located on the Vorderen Schurwald between the Neckar and Remstal valleys . It almost completely encloses the community of Aichwald with its districts Aichelberg, Krummhardt, Schanbach and Aichschieß.
The protected area that exists today was created by ordinance of August 12, 1991 and covered 1098 hectares. At the same time, the ordinance of the Esslingen District Office on the Aichwald landscape protection area of July 30, 1980 became invalid. At that time, only the forest-free plateaus with an area of 560 hectares were placed under protection. An extension took place on November 15, 2000, so that currently 1116 hectares are protected.
It belongs to the natural areas 107- Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald and 123- Neckar basin within the natural spatial main units 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land and 12- Neckar- and Tauber-Gäuplatten . A small part of the area near Aichschieß belongs to the FFH area 7222-341 Schurwald . The nature reserve 1,156 Stettener Bach borders to the southwest.
Protection purpose
According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the diversity and beauty of a typical Keuper mountain landscape of the Neckar area, which is characterized by the blade-rich, natural beech and oak forests, as well as the cleared plateaus, the extensively used grassland and grassland as well as arable and berry crops Orchard meadow areas include. The multitude of different landscape elements and the wealth of the most diverse border structures with their importance as a habitat for numerous, sometimes rare plant and animal species characterize the value of this landscape.
Another protective purpose is to ensure that it is a valuable recreational area in the middle of the heavily industrialized and polluted valleys of the Neckar and Rems, as well as protecting against further impairment through small buildings and fences.
