When the single was first published, the title was only moderately successful - except in Great Britain. It was only when downloads were taken into account in 2007 that the popularity was also reflected in the chart positions. After considering music streaming in the single charts in the mid-2010s, the title was able to achieve a new top ranking in several countries. The highest ranking was in Germany in December 2018, in Switzerland in December 2015 and in Austria in mid-December 2018. In the British BBC charts, the song reached number two in Advent 2017.

By GfK Entertainment end of 2016 it was announced that All I Want For Christmas on Christmas Eve 2016 with over 1.17 million streams on the record of the most streamed songs in one day in Germany broke. It is also the first track to be streamed over a million times in a single day. On Christmas Eve 2017, after Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee had previously held the record since May 27, 2017 , with 1.8 million views , the song once again recorded the most streams in Germany within one day.
