The FC Ararat Jerewan ( Armenian Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Արարատ Երեւան , Futbolayin Akumb Ararat Jerewan; Russian Футбольный Клуб Арарат Ереван ) is an Armenian football club . The club from the capital Yerevan currently plays in the Arajin chumb , the second highest league in the country.
Ararat Yerevan was the most successful club in Armenia at the time of the Soviet Union and even won the Soviet double in 1973 . Since the independence of Armenia, the traditional club has lost its supremacy, the last championship was won in 1993.
history
The association was founded in 1935 as Spartak Yerevan. He has been called Ararat since 1963. It refers to Mount Ararat , which is the national symbol of the Armenians . In 1949 the first team rose to the highest Soviet league , but rose again the following year. The return to the House of Lords then succeeded in the 1960 season, with relegation having to start again in 1963. In the next season, however, the immediate rise again succeeded. From 1965 until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ararat Yerevan remained in the highest Soviet league.
The team had their most successful times in the 1970s. In the 1973 season she won the double, consisting of a cup and a championship, under coach Nikita Simonjan . In addition to Dinamo Tbilisi , they were the only Soviet team from the Caucasus that could ever win the championship. The team around coach Simonjan was celebrated like heroes in Yerevan, the players Eduard Markarow , Aljoscha Abramjan , Alexander Kovalenko , Oganes Sanasanjan , Levon Ishtoyan , Arkady Andriasjan and Norair Mesropyan were included in the list of the 33 best Soviet players of the season.
In the following year, the club reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup of National Champions 1974/75 , where after a 2-0 away defeat and a 1-0 home win, it was only narrowly defeated by the eventual winners FC Bayern Munich .
In 1975 Ararat was able to win the cup again with coach Wiktor Maslow and therefore moved into the European Cup Winners' Cup 1975/76 . After winning a record 10: 1 against the Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta in the first round, they lost 2: 4 (1: 1 in Yerevan, 1: 3 in London) against the eventual finalists West Ham in the second round United out.
In 1976 Ararat lost under the leadership of coach and former player Eduard Markarow in the cup final against Dinamo Tiflis and ended the season as runner-up behind Dynamo Moscow . Especially from the 1980s, Ararat only belonged to the midfield of the Soviet league and was even at risk of relegation at times. The last season of the Soviet championship ended the team in seventh place.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , they played in the newly founded Bardsragujn chumb . The former top club won the Armenian championship in 1993 and the soccer cup several times , but lost its supremacy in Armenian soccer.
In 2006 the club was insolvent and filed for bankruptcy. The second team took over and then acted as the first team.
In the 2009 season , the club rose from bottom of the table from the Premier League to the Armenian First League . In 2010, however, the direct resurgence succeeded. The 2011 season ended in last place in the table (only two wins, 22 defeats). The relegation was only avoided, since in 2011 all teams from the second division were second teams from the first division and therefore had no promotion rights. 2012/13 they finished 7th out of 8 table positions.
